Amanda Lucas, LCSW
Amanda received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Vanderbilt University and a Master of Science in Social Work from the University of Tennessee. She is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and is certified in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT). She is a member of the National Association of Social Workers and the Nashville Psychotherapy Institute.
While she is a generalist and sees clients of every age, Amanda specializes in adolescents, especially those with serious emotional disturbance. Her areas of interest also include treating trauma-based anxiety (including PTSD), addiction issues, and relationship issues. She has past experience in almost every facet of mental health care: psychiatric hospitalization, outpatient alcohol and drug treatment, intensive in-home therapy, and school-based counseling, as well as traditional office-based therapy.
Amanda has presented on topics such as Recognizing the Signs of Child Abuse, Positive Behavioral Interventions for Pre-Schoolers, Challenges in Parenting, Working with Difficult Parents, Clinical Work with Adolescents, Self-Care for Non-Profit Professionals, and Dating after Death and Divorce for Seniors.
Amanda believes strongly that the ability to develop kindness and compassion toward oneself and others is essential to healing. She believes that what we struggle with as adults has everything to do with our experiences as children. Understanding and unlocking those patterns can be crucial to learning how to live a happy and healthy life.
“Tenderness and kindness are not signs of weakness and despair, but manifestations of strength and resolution.” ~ Khalil Gibran
