Mary Hock, LCSW

Mary is a licensed clinical social worker with thirteen years experience in providing therapeutic counseling to children, adolescents, adults, families, and couples. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Edgecliff College in Cincinnati and a Master of Science in Social Work from the University of Tennessee. She is a member of the National Association of Social Workers, Tennessee School Social Worker's Association, Tennessee Conference on Social Welfare, and Metroploitan Nashville Eductaion Association. In addition to her work at the Evelyn Frye Center, she is employed as a Certified School Social Worker for Metro-Nashville Public Schools.

Mary is eclectic in her methods of therapy and uses the type which will best promote each client's optimal emotional health. These types include cognitive restructuring, behavior modification, cognitive-behavioral (CBT), dialectal behavioral (DBT), supportive, and art and play therapy. She uses these methods to help clients overcome depression, anxiety, trauma, abuse, anger, and grief as well as for personal growth and adjustment issues. As a parent of who has successfully raised four children into adulthood, Mary is also an avid promoter of solid parenting skills.

Mary attributes her success as a therapist to “meeting my clients where they are”. She firmly believes that each person holds within hinself or herself the power to find solutions to any issues. She views her role as therapist to elicit those answers from clients. She is delighted to accompany clients on their journeys toward wholeness and to witness their pain and frustration give way to insight, growth, and empowerment.
